Disney Lorcana Attack of the Vine Review — New Mechanics, Pixar Characters & Is It Worth Buying?

Disney Lorcana’s 13th set arrived at local game stores July 17 and hit full retail July 24 — and it’s the most mechanically significant Lorcana release since the game launched.

What Is Attack of the Vine?

Attack of the Vine is the culmination of a year-long Lorcana storyline. The Vine has absorbed magical ink and become the most powerful threat Illumineers have faced. Stopping it requires teamwork, and the set’s new mechanics are built around exactly that.

207 Cards — The Biggest Set Ever

Every previous Lorcana set contained 204 cards. Attack of the Vine breaks that ceiling with 207 cards, making it the largest set in the game’s history and the biggest collector challenge yet.

New Franchises: Monsters Inc., Up, and Turning Red

Three Pixar franchises make their Lorcana debut in this set:

• Monsters Inc.: Sully, Mike Wazowski, Randall Boggs, Boo
• Up: Carl Fredricksen with new artwork
• Turning Red: Mei Lee, Red Panda classification

Classic Disney villains also return as corrupted variants: Ursula, Pete, and Gaston all appear as “Created by the Vine” cards with eerie corrupted artwork.

New Mechanics

Temporary Shift — Shift a card for one turn, then return only that shifted card to your hand while the base stays in play.

Team Classification — The biggest gameplay change. Team characters can be played together under certain conditions regardless of ink color.

Christopher Robin — Hunny Sage — The single most impactful card in the set. For the first time in Lorcana history, this card allows players to include characters of any ink color in their deck. This breaks the two-ink-color rule that has governed deck-building since day one and will reshape competitive play.

Format Rotation

Core Constructed competitive format is now limited to the five most recent sets: Fabled, Whispers in the Well, Winterspell, Wilds Unknown, and Attack of the Vine. Players on older sets need to rebuild for the current Challenge cycle.

Box vs Singles — The Honest Take

Buy a box if you enjoy the full pack-opening experience, you’re building competitive decks and need volume, or you want Pixar character cards for collector value.

Buy singles if you’re targeting Christopher Robin — Hunny Sage specifically, chasing corrupted villain variants, or completing the set without duplicates.

Singles prices on key cards will settle 2–3 weeks post-retail launch. If you’re chasing Christopher Robin or the Vine villain variants, waiting slightly beats overpaying at launch.

Verdict

Attack of the Vine earns its place as the most important Lorcana set since launch. The 207-card count, three new Pixar franchises, Christopher Robin’s game-changing card, new Shift mechanics, and format rotation all make this a must-engage set whether you’re a competitive player or collector.
